Poster Children

Hi everyone! Sure, it’s been a while since you’ve heard from us, but we’re still actively selling posters to benefit the Salvation Army’s 2007 wildfire relief fund. Thankfully, so far this year, we’ve been spared the ravages of wildfire in San Diego county, but Los Angeles county fared worse than we did.

Just wanted to share with you some stories that made it to the mainstream press. California Home + Design had a feature in their March article showing off posters by Greg Bennett, Ryan Clark, Jason Gomez, Hatch Design, Ryan Russell, and Steve Baretto. You can check it out on newsstands (or, I suppose, in the Library by now) or at their website.

In May, Metropolis magazine featured posters that their art department (Make-Out) submitted. Many thanks to Criswell Lappin, Dungjai Pungauthaikan, Lisa Maione, and Taro Yumiba for their outstanding contributions. You can read the story on Metropolis’ website.

Most posters ship within two days of the order. Depending on how close you are to San Diego, shipping times can range from one to two weeks. If you don’t see your poster after two weeks, let us know, and we’ll track it for you. We apologize for any delays, but this is a charity staffed by volunteers, after all.

Publicity Machine Heating Up

Hi all! Sorry it’s been a while since the last update, but that doesn’t mean we’re not busy over here at Fire Poster Project Central. (Or my house. You know … whichever.)

We have five new posters coming soon, with editions arriving at our warehouse every week now. Bookmark your favorite poster if it’s not available yet, check back soon, and grab it before the crowds get here.

Fire Story: Larry Himmel

Larry Himmel has been a fixture at KFMB-TV (Channel Eight) here in San Diego for as long as I can recall. Growing up, I remember (back when local television had the budget for their own programming) a show called San Diego At Large, which was a comedy program featuring Himmel and Rick Rockwell (whom you might remember went onto fame as the millionaire in Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire?). They gave us Elvis-themed Viva La Mesa, and played recurring roles as Biff and Skippy, two idiot beach bums trying to find their way into and out of local trouble.

Larry still works as a reporter at KFMB. On October 22, 2007, he had to cover what was probably the most disturbing and painful story of his life: the fiery destruction of his own home.

It’s debatable who had the worse fate: Larry, who had to share the pain of losing his home with all of San Diego, or the hundreds of other families who had to suffer theirs in silence. In either case, John Foster, of fuszion, distilled the searing emotion into one iconic image:
